iPod Touch availability lacking in the US Apple Store, pointing to a March refresh

ipod lack of availability

It was reported that on the USA Apple Store, some of the iPod Touch models are lacking availability. Something a bit odd for a product that has been out for quite a while now.

It was noticed that some iPod model colour and memory variations were lacking availability until 1-2 weeks time. Could it be that Apple is no longer manufacturing these older models in time for a prominent refresh?

The current iPod Touch 6th generation models which are affected in the USA Apple store include:

  • iPod Touch 6th Generation (Space Grey 128GB)
  • iPod Touch 6th Generation (Gold 64GB)
  • iPod Touch 6th Generation (Gold 128GB)

All other models look to be available and in stock for purchase. However, if the theory above of a new iPod is right around the corner is true. We expect other iPod model variations to follow suit.

Rumours of the new iPod Touch 7th Generation being in production include manufacturers from the CES show hinting at a new release as well as references to the new iPod found in iOS code and recently an iPod Touch 7th reference found on an iCloud account.

So what do you think? Is it likely that Apple will be announcing the iPod release in their next Apple Services event due to be held this March? Let us know in the comments below.
