The iPod Shuffle is Apple’s smallest and most affordable MP3 player. Unlike other iPods it has no screen — you move through your music using a simple control pad. The earliest models were a slim stick roughly the size of a pack of gum, while later generations became a tiny square that clips onto your clothing, making them a favourite for workouts and running. If your iPod has no screen, it’s a Shuffle.
There are four generations of iPod Shuffle. The 1st generation (2005) is a slim white stick with a built-in USB connector. The 2nd generation is a small clip-on square with a control pad on the front. The 3rd generation is a very slim model that moved the controls onto the headphone cable. The 4th generation brought the controls back onto the device while keeping the clip design. You can confirm your exact model and memory size on the rear of the device or by connecting it to iTunes.
